Performance art piece made within the context of BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins. Masks made out of air dry clay and apoxie sculpt.
We chose to explore the format of a “nuclear” family in England by assigning roles to each other and creating a relevant clay mask to play the role of a well adjusted British family member, obsessed with appearances and reading the Guardian in the morning with a cuppa.
Not only was it really fun to play the idea of a typical British dad, into football, technologically challenged and sceptical of the UK’s covid government guidelines, it was also very tongue in the cheek to do so as an immigrant to the UK who will never be the head of a big happy typical media-friendly family.
Our performance involved much drama such as teenage rebelion, dad having an affair with his wife’s sister, nan grapling with covid loneliness, and a maid AI rebelling against their owner. It was presented to our fellow BA classmates via narrative facebook screenshots and zoom call recordings.
